Getting started
Choosing a first instrument
Start with curiosity, comfort and a sound your child enjoys.
Listen before deciding
Let your child hear piano, violin and guitar music. Notice which sounds and styles hold their attention. A preference is a useful starting point, even if it changes later.
Think about practice at home
Consider the space, instrument access and regular time available for practice. Ask the teacher about suitable equipment before buying an instrument.
Use the first lesson to explore
A first lesson can help you understand the instrument, the learning process and your child’s response. Ask about the starting level, practice expectations and next steps.
